The New Parliament

On the day after the election, we analyzed what the new Bundestag looks like, particularly with regard to age and gender representation. While planning the story, we aimed to keep the 630 circles representing the new MPs as a visual throughout the article. To achieve this, I created a modified version of a population pyramid, as well as a distribution of circles within a flower.

My part of the data analysis was done in R. I calculated the positions for each visual and then used Datawrapper to create the final visuals.

The opening visual was created by Rina Wilkin. Most of the data analysis was done by Marcel Pauly and Milena Hassenkamp. The text was written by Milena Hassenkamp wrote the article’s text.
